Qi Jia, PhD, President and CEO of Unigen, explained that the company discovers its ingredients through its high throughput screening system, PhytoLogix, which is applied to a proprietary collection of botanicals and a legacy mining approach applied to botanicals with known medicinal benefits.
One ingredient that Unigen discovered was Zea mays, a natural mood health product that contains a proprietary compound known to enhance serotonin levels. Unigen’s proprietary extract Maizinol is a patented formulation that is grown using commercial strains of corn approved for human consumption.
Another botanical ingredient that Unigen introduced at SupplySide West is its immune health ingredient, UP360. It’s made up of polysaccharide and standardized polyphenol extracts from aloe, poria, and rosemary formulated by evaluating the synergistic effects in protection from hyperoxia stressed macrophages.
