Avascular Necrosis and Minimally Invasive Treatment Using Stem Cells – Mayo Clinic

Videos
Courtney E. Sherman, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Mayo Clinic, discusses what avascular necrosis is, how to treat it, the various stages and a new minimally invasive procedure using stem cells that are extracted from the patient’s pelvis to regenerate bone. Avascular necrosis is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Also called osteonecrosis, avascular necrosis can lead to tiny breaks in the bone and the bone’s eventual collapse.
